Self-Care Doesn’t Have to Be Big

Sometimes it is the small things in life that count most, especially when it comes to self-care.

For me, it is often those little things that make a big difference.

I take my bike, put Liza, my dog, in her bicycle trailer, pack my camera and simply head out.

Then I just let the road take us wherever it wants. Sometimes these become small adventures in nature that help me clear my head. Maybe we discover a beautiful place along the way, go for a walk or search for a geocache. With a little luck, I might even take a great photo – or maybe not.

And that is not really what matters.

What matters is that moment when everyday life becomes quieter for a while. Outside in nature, with Liza and my camera, I consciously listen to the sounds around me: birds singing and the wind rustling through the trees.

Simply letting my mind rest for a while.

Those are the moments that feel especially precious to me. On days like these, I am reminded how much small steps can achieve.

What kind of little break helps you on difficult days?

Especially when living with a rare or chronic condition, one thing becomes clear again and again: together, we are less alone.
