Wann bist du das letzte Mal ein Risiko eingegangen? Wie ist es ausgegangen?
The last time I consciously took a risk was while cycling in traffic. It was a typical situation in the city: heavy traffic, narrow streets, parked cars along the sides, and very little space for cyclists. I had to decide whether to stay behind a slow-moving bus or overtake it on the left to keep moving forward more efficiently.
I chose to pass the bus, knowing that this increased the risk. Cars might suddenly pull out, the bus could start moving without warning, or the space might turn out to be tighter than expected. In that moment, full concentration was essential: making eye contact with other road users, quickly judging speeds and distances, and having enough confidence to handle the situation safely.
In the end, everything went well. I managed to overtake the bus safely and continue my ride without any problems. Still, the situation reminded me how quickly things can change in traffic and how important it is to carefully weigh risks. As a cyclist, you are more vulnerable than other road users, so it’s important to be brave but also to know your limits.
Looking back, it was a small, everyday decision, but one that says a lot about awareness, experience, and responsibility.
